Music Cassettes were first invented by Philips in 1963 and by the 1980s when the Fame albums were first released they were one of the two main formats for music releases along with LPs.
When CDs started to become popular in the late 80s and early 90s the cassette sales started to decline and it was started to be phased out by the mid 90s as a regular format for music releases.
Today some artists do still release their albums on cassette as a nostalgic niche collectors item.
All the Fame albums:
The Kids From Fame
The Kids From Fame Again
The Kids From fame Live
The Kids From Fame Songs / Fame 2
The Kids From Fame Sing For You
Rock n Roll World
Best of Fame
were originally released on this Format.
Later albums:
Ultimate Fame
Live in Liverpool
Were have never been released on Cassette.
In addition there was also a 4 track EP released by RCA in the U.K. called Flip Hits. It was a new type of release and a forerunner to the cassette single.
The original cassettes come up on Ebay frequently for anyone looking to add theses items to their collection.
