The Show Must Go On - Erica Gimpel - Song of the Month

The Show Must Go On is a mid- tempo fun song written by Barry Fasman and Steve Sperry in  1981 especially for Fame.

 It comes from the season 1 episode "Passing Grade" where Coco and Lydia both audition for the same Broadway Show.  Coco played by Erica Gimpel performs the song as her audition piece accompanied by Bruno.

 The song was popular and released on the Kids From Fame Again Album in October 1982.

 The song was also covered by the D Dance School on their Fame covers album and a Instrumental version Released on the Fame Karaoke Album in the 00s.

 As yet the song has never been performed in a Fame concert. However, it was performed by Tom Urie at the Fame Family Experience, which was part of the Fame U.K. Reunion 2019.

The original The Kids from Fame album has been officially certified Triple Platinum in the UK.

 When the album was released in 1982, the UK did not yet issue multi-platinum certifications—a system that was only formally introduced in 1987.  Though music magazines frequently used the term informally. For instance, the March 12th, 1983 issue of Record Mirror noted that the album had reached 1.2 million UK sales, qualifying it for Quadruple Platinum status.

When official multi-platinum classifications took effect in 1987, many record labels applied to have older titles re-certified. However, Fame was no longer airing on UK television, and album releases for the franchise had ended four years earlier. As a result, BBC/RCA Records likely saw little commercial benefit in updating the classification, leaving the album officially designated as single Platinum for decades.

 Songwriter Ethan Hurt, who co-wrote "Be My Music" with Lee Curreri, set out to correct this oversight. Thanks to his efforts, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) officially reclassified the album on June 26th. Because full historical sales data was no longer complete, the BPI chose to err on the side of caution and awarded a Triple Platinum certification—even though 1982–1983 sales numbers suggested Quadruple Platinum status.
