Paul Seeger - Character of the Month

Paul Seeger

Paul Seeger is an actor friend of Lydia Grant’s who returns to New York City. His desire to do quality work has him turning down a TV series because it’s too light weight, with too much emphasis on the clothes rather than the character.

We first meet him in the episode “New Faces”, where he’s working part time as a day player/extra on a movie and part time as a cab driver.  

Paul is a gifted acted but also outspoken and can be brutally honest which means he often upsets people and loses out of some acting parts.

Lydia believes that Paul is a born teacher and organises for him to have an interview to be an artist in residence at the school to teach acting. At first he’s reluctant and is pretty hard on the kids which cause friction. Also at first he’s not that committed so when a part comes up he quits the school. 

However, he can’t help himself in saying what he thinks of the script, which results in him not getting the part. When Lydia accuses him of sabotaging his own career, he realises his mistake and returns to the school.   

Paul is a perfectionist and he’s most demanding on himself.   He doesn’t see the point in needless procedures and rebels against all the forms that the board of education requires and he hates handing out grades.  More important to him is the respect of the kids which he gains relatively quickly.

Paul is keen to shake things up at the school and encourages the kids to rebel. Although he realises he’s gone too far in “A Different Drummer” where Reggie Higgins gets suspended from school and discovers that teaching is harder than he thought it would be.  

In the Big Contract Dyrenforth pressures Paul to take on some extracurricular activity and Paul ops to be the faculty adviser for the School Newspaper, mistakenly thinking it’ll be an easy ride.  

Over time Paul becomes to love his job at the school.

Eric Pierpoint - Cast Member of the Month

Eric Pierpoint

Eric Pierpoint was born on 18^th November 1950. Eric is born under the star sign Scorpio, who have been described as honest, generous and genuinely compassionate.

Eric was raised by his Mother Patricia Adams Pierpoint and Stepdad Robert Pierpoint who was a former CBS news White House correspondent, in Redlands, California until he was 9. The middle of 3 children the family relocated to Washington in 1959.

Eric graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1969 and was on the wrestling, soccer, and tennis teams.  . He spent time accompanying his stepfather on news assignments during his teen years, often meeting high ranking US Government officials.

He then attended the University of Redlands in Redlands, California, majoring in philosophy and receiving his Bachelor's Degree in 1973. He was captain of the soccer team, and took his first drama course as a senior and began his pursuit of acting after graduation.  Later he attended The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he received his Master's Degree in Fine Arts.

In 1984 Eric landing his first role in the film Windy City. Then later that year, he was cast in his first lead role in the short-lived television series Hot Pursuit, which was produced by Kenneth Johnson.  Here he first came to the attention of Fame’s Executive Producers Renee and Harry Longstreet.

Having married his High School sweetheart Linda, in 1969 the couple divorced in 1985.

Eric guest starred on 3 episodes of Hill Street Blues and appeared in the 1986 movie Invaders from Mars. Then later in 1986 the Longstreet’s cast him as new drama teacher Paul Seeger in the 6^th season of “Fame”, where Eric appeared in 15 episodes.

After Fame Eric appeared in American TV shows like “beauty and the Beast”, “In The Heat of the Night” and “Heartlands”.

Then in 1989, he was again cast by Kenneth Johnson as a lead in another TV series, the television adaption of the 1988 film Alien Nation, where he took over the role of Detective Samuel "George" Francisco starring opposite Gary Graham. The series, though very popular among fans, was cancelled after one season. Although five subsequent Alien Nation TV movies from 1993 to 1997.

Eric starred in five separate guest roles on all four Star Trek series spin off series and appeared in the 1997 film Liar, Liar.

Eric is a regular guest star on numerous TV shows like: “Murder She Wrote”, “E.R.”,  “Silk Stalkings”, “Ally McBeal”, “Babylon 5”, “Brothers and Sisters”, “Hart of Dixie” and “Parks and Recreation”, to name just a few.

In addition to numerous roles on television and film, Eric has been active in theatre, starring in many plays throughout his career, including The Lion In Winter for the Ensemble Theatre Company, .

In 2013 Eric wrote and published His children's novel, “The Last Ride Of Caleb O'Toole”, which received the 2013 Reading the West Book Award. He followed it up with his second novel “The Secret Mission of William Tuck” and spends time reading his work to middle school children in an educational book tour, he also teaches guest master classes in acting at various universities.

Eric currently resides in Topanga, California and has been active in the Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles for a number of years.
