Written in 1980 for the Movie "Fame" by Michael Gore with his singer songwriter Sister Lesley Gore who's hits include "It's My Party".

The song was rush released  in August 1980 in America and climbed the U.S. charts to  peak at Number 19 on the Billboard charts and Number 25 on the Cash Box charts.

"Out Here On My Own" was nominated as best song at the 1980 Academy Awards but lost out to the "fame" theme Song. The first time 2 songs from the same movie were nominated in the same year.

In the U.K. the song failed to chart in 1980 however a re-release in 1982 coinciding with the broadcast of the Fame TV Series and a follow up to the number one hit "Fame" saw it peak at number 58.

The song was also performed in the TV Series bu Donna McKechnise and Cynthia Gibb. Cynthia has performed a solo live version at a number of the Fame Reunion shows.

The song has been covered by Cher, Mariah Carey, Nikki Costa and Angela Clemmons.

Reviews:

Sometimes I wonder where I've been,

Who I am,

Do I fit in.

Make believein' is hard alone,

Out here on my own.

We're always provin' who we are,

Always reachin'

For that risin' star

To guide me far

And shine me home,

Out here on my own.

When I'm down and feelin' blue,

I close my eyes so I can be with you.

Oh, baby be strong for me;

Baby belong to me.

Help me through.

Help me need you.

Until the morning sun appears

Making light

Of all my fears,

I dry the tears

I've never shown,

Out here on my own.

But when I'm down and feelin' blue,

I close my eyes so I can be with you.

Oh, baby be strong for me;

Baby, belong to me.

Help me through.

Help me need you.

Sometimes I wonder where I've been,

Who I am,

Do I fit in.

I may not win,

But I can't be thrown,

Out here on my own,

Out here on my own.
