Turn To Me - Valerie Landsburg - Song of the Month

"Turn To Me" is a beautiful power ballad which features in the season 3 episode "Consequences" and is performed by Valerie Landsburg In the sotryline Doris has written the Song.

In reality The song was written by Lori Lieberman and Gary Scott. Gary Scott was Fame's Music Producer at this point and Lori Lieberman who is famous for for writing the song "Killing Me Softly, was his wife.

They wrote the song in 1982 and it was originally recorded by Maxine Nightingale featuring Jimmy Ruffin and appeared on Maxine's album from that year titled "It's A Beautiful Thing". It was also released as a single in the U.S. where it reached number 17 on the Billboard R&B Chart.

In 1983 Didier Barbelivien translated the song into French where it was recorded by Patti Layne for her album "Une Espèce De Canadienne - Je Veux L'aimer".

The song was also Covered by Petula Clark for her 1988 album "My Greatest"

In "Fame" the song appears twice and the second, shorter version is a duet with Carlo Imperato, with different lyrics.  A snippet of Valerie's solo version also appeared in the season 3 episode "A Way of Winning".

So far "Turn To Me" has never been performed live in any of the Fame concerts.

Valerie commented about the song:
"As you know I became the ballad singer of the show, there were a lot of songs. I listen to this and I can hear my voice maturing as I learned to work in a recording studio. This was great with a hand held camera going around while I sang, The high notes were hard to reach I can actually sing it now better I think. My voice was still very young I was 25. It’s always funny to think this was always lip synching. I learned the best way was always to sing full out while the playback was going. Here is how it worked. You got a demo tape on Monday with a lyric sheet. Tuesday you recorded a temporary track, they would finished all the instrumentation without you and then Thursday you recorded and Friday you shot it. What an education."

"Here I Go Again, Talking Myself Out Of You Again.
Just When I Thought We Held It All In Our Hands,
Something Inside Me Knew You Wouldn't Stay.

There You Are Again, All Of My Dreams I Feel With You,
Wondering Where To Turn And Who To Turn To.

If Only This Time You Wouldn't Turn Away.

Turn To Me
I'm The One Whose Always Loved You
Turn To Me
From The First Time That We Met.

Now It's Out Of My Hands,
And It's Up To Your Heart. (Your Heart).

Time And Again This World Will Keep On Turning
The Big Clock On The Wall Will Spin The Hours Away
You And I Could Keep Our Endless Searching
Just To Find What's Right In Front Of Us Today. (Today)

Turn To Me
I'm The One Whose Always Loved You
Turn To Me
From The First Time That We Met

Now It's Out Of My Hands
And It's Up To Your Heart.

Turn To Me
I'm The One Whose Always Loved You
Turn To Me
From The First Time That We Met

Now It's Out Of My Hands
And It's Up To Your Heart. (Your Heart).

Turn To Me
Turn To Me."

One of my favourites, such a beautiful song and the filming was so simple as Valerie's voice just held your full attention.
