‘Fame’ TV Show Studio at MGM-UA
June 21, 1985
CULVER CITY, Calif. (AP) _ A blaze at a sound stage
where the television show ″Fame″ is produced burned for five hours in the
MGM-UA Entertainment Co. studios before firefighters brought it under control,
officials said.
″It was a particularly stubborn fire because of the
nature of accoustical construction. There’s a lot of insulation and space
between baffles in the walls and ceiling,″ Fire Chief Stan Isbell said today.
About 60 firefighters from Culver City, Los Angeles and Santa Monica rushed to the studio after the fire erupted at 6:32 p.m. Thursday, Isbell said.
The fire was extinguished at 11:30 p.m., and there
were no injuries. Isbell said the fire may have stemmed from roofing work on
top of the sound stage. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
Culver City is 10 miles southwest of downtown Los
Angeles.
