Dusty Tyler- Character of the Month

Dusty Tyler is a Preachers daughter who arrives in the episode “A Place To Belong” fresh from Colorado.  Initially she finds the energy and talent of her class mates overwhelming believing they’re too hot for her.

Dusty is a little shy and unsure of herself, wanting to audition for a show straight away but not having the confidence.  She knows that her father is unhappy that she wants to be a performer and that he’s less happy that is has moved to New York City. She feels a pressure to make things happen for herself very quickly to prove him wrong but struggling to find a place that she feel s comfortable.

Dusty has a big powerful voice and she soon learns that in the voice department she can definitely hold her own.

As time goes by she becomes more confident but still struggles to be given the chance to be the leading lady she wants to be, as we see in “To Tilt At Windmills”.

Dusty is a genuine, hardworking, sweet and polite person but at times she can be sassy when the situation calls for it.

She joins an all girl band with some of the other female students but again she doesn’t push herself out front instead she develops a passion for playing the drums, rather than showing off her voice. She is frequently seen carrying her drum sticks around with her.

In “A Different Drummer” Dusty’s father comes to visit, making her feel very nervous about what he’ll think of her choice of school and friends particularly when her letters home have painted a picture that her friends can’t live up to. Her father indeed wants her to return home with him but Dusty stands up to him and stays.

In “Mister Wacky’s World” Dusty develops feelings for Jesse but worries that n one will look at someone her size. After date with Jesse she is disappointed that he doesn’t feel the same for her as she feels for him.
