Out Here On My Own - Irene Cara - 30th Anniversary

"Out Here On My Own" performed by Irene Cara was written by Lesley and Michael Gore was originally released in 1980 from the "Fame" soundtrack.

In the U.S. the song reached number 19 on the Billboard charts and was nominated as song of the year at the 1980 academy awards. The song wasn't released in the U.K. until September 1982, where it was released as the follow up to the huge number one "Fame". Sadly the song failed to catch on like it predecessor and peaked at number 58, after only spending 3 weeks on the U.K. charts.

Fame News

Well the big news, which we've reported in the last few days, is the announcement that Nigel Lythgoe has gone into partnership with MGM to develop a new "Fame" TV series.

I'm excited how this may turn out and the positive impact it could have on the original series. If nothing else hopefully we'll finally get season 3 put on DVD!

Some of my thoughts for the new series would be:

I’d like to see Debbie Allen as the Principal, although appreciate Debbie is busy so maybe her role could be a recurring character rather than a regular.

I’d like Valerie Landsburg to play Doris as a school guidance counsellor who all the kids go to. Her daughter will be a student but their relationship is rocky and her daughter hates that everyone can talk to her Mother except her.

Morgan Stevens or Eric Pierpoint to play the drama teacher.

Danny’s son (Daniel or Dan for short) is new at the school which after not achieving his own dreams Danny worries his son could be wasting his time. Daniel and Doris’ daughter start seeing each other. Carlo would be a regular guest star.

Lydia persuades a reluctant Bruno to teach at the school. I suspect Lee wouldn’t want to act full time on the show so again he would be a semi regular. I'm sure Lee would be interested in writing music for the show though.

Erica Gimpel could guest star as Coco could visit the school and help the kids put on a show.

It would also be nice if Carol Mayo Jenkins could guest star in an episode, Lydia turns to her for advice when she contemplates retiring from the school.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

The Episode of the month is "Stage fright" from season 5 and posts for that start today.

It's a short month this month, so there's no theme, as we take our annual holiday. We go away on September 13th, which will be when this months final posts will go live. New posts will start again on October 1st.

Debbie Allen is set reprise her role of Catherine Avery in the 4th episode of the new season of "Grey's Anatomy". Debbie will also direct the 3rs episode of the new season. "grey's anatomy returns to ABC on September 27th.

Janet Jackson has been named for the 3rd year in a row as the face of Blackglama.

Take care and have a great month,

Mark
