Fame In The Netherlands

 


In The Netherlands Fame was broadcast by Vara on either Nerderland 1 or Nederland 2 channels between 1983 and 1984.

Season 1 was first broadcast in January 1983. Most episodes were broadcast on Friday evenings at various times after 9.00pm (i.e. 9.10pm, 9.20pm, 9.35pm etc..) with a couple of weekends an additional episode was broadcast on Saturday evenings.

The series was very successful which led to the title track "Fame" , sung by Irene Cara, charting at number 1 in the Netherlands for three weeks in early 1983 in both the Dutch Top 40  the National Hit Parade and the TROS Top 50 . In the European chart, the TROS Europarade , it reached Number 8.


The Kids From Fame Album was released in February 1983. In total it spent 30 weeks on the Dutch album chart, three of them at Number One. A special picture of the album disc was issued which was exclusive to The Netherlands.

"Hi Fidelity" was released as also released as a single in February 1983, which reached number 11 and spent 8 weeks on the chart.

A month after the first album The Kids From Fame Again album was released in March 1983. The album reached number 5 and spent 16 weeks on the chart.

 The First Episode had been broadcast on Friday 7th January 1983 at 9.25pm on Nederland 1 by Vara. 15 of the season's 16 were broadcast through to March 25th and then 4 episodes of Season 2 were broadcast before the series took a short break.

In April 1983 The Kids From Fame Live album was released, this reached number 10 and spent 18 weeks on the Chart. The Week after release the Cast arrived to perform 4 concerts at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam on April 24th and April 25th.

Starmaker was also released as a single in April, which peaked at Number 4 and spent 10 weeks on the singles chart.   

The Songs album was released in May 1983, which reached number 17 on the album chart.

The Cast appeared in a number of Dutch Magazines notably Veronica, Hitkrant, Pop Foto and Prive. Erica and Lee were also interviewed for the Dutch TV show Top Pop.3.


In June 1983 the season 2 episodes continued sporadically through to December 1983 with the missing episode of season 1 being  broadcast in November.

The Sing For You Album was released,  spending 7 weeks on the charting and reaching a peak of number 17.

Season 3 ran from January to July 1984. At the same time Vara was running a Fame dance competition which ran from September 1983 to April 1984 with Billy Hufsey travelling to the Netherlands for the final.

By the end of July 1984 broadcasts ceased and Vara did not acquire seasons 4, 5 or 6 to broadcast in The Netherlands.
