Crew Member of the Month - Mel Swope

 


Mel Swope was born in san Francisco, California and graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama and Television.

He started his career in Television in the early 1960s working as a second assistant director or assistant director on TV shows such as  The Monkees, The flying Nun and david Cassidy Man Undercover. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he moved on to working as a Producer/Associate Producer/Co-Producer of TV Series such as The Partridge Family, Matt Helm, Miami Vice and Police Story.

In 1981 he took on the role of Producer for the fist and second seasons of Fame and was second in command after William Blinn.  He was also the director on 3 of the episodes: "The Crazies", "Solo Song" and "U.N. Week".

He was nominated for Emmy awards for "Fame" in both 1982 and 1983. 

When NBC Cancelled Fame after it's second year Mel left the Show.   

In 1994 he became Executive Vice President at MGM Productions and was ultimately the person responsible for the Fame Revival "Fame L.A." in the late 1990s.
