Fame News February 2023

 


Looking back 40 years to February 1983, it was a time of mixed emotions in the Fame World. Whilst the show had been hugely successful in the U.K. and Europe, with another Tour just announced and the release of a new  album (The Kids From Fame Live) and Single (Friday Night), in America the cast were just coming to the end of filming season 2, working on the episodes "Help From My Friends", "Ending on a High Note" and "U.N. Week".  It was a time of uncertainty as NBC had cancelled the show and although MGM were looking at other ways of continuing to make the show, no one knew for sure what was going to happen.

Fame U.K. Reunion have announced an Online Audience with Valerie Landsburg on Sunday 12th February 6.00pm to 10.00pm GMT. The evening will be split into 2 halves. A virtual group chat 6.00pm to 8.00pm priced £30 and then from 8.00pm to 10.00pm people can book 10 minute private chats for additional £20. 




In January Debbie Allen appeared on the Jennifer Hudson Show.




Cynthia Gibb will feature in a new documentary titled Karen Carpenter starving For Perfection, which will premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on February 10th and then will be at the Sedona Film Festival on February 23rd.   Cynthia said:
"So honored to be a part of this documentary and that it will premiere at the SBIFF. Can't wait to see it! Randy Schmidt has dedicated years to telling Karen Carpenter's story in a detailed and nuanced way."

Sad news, Charles Koppleman who was the Music Executive for the Entertainment Company, who provided the songs for Fame in its first few seasons and the Executive Producers of the original Fame Concert Tours died from cancer on November 25th aged 82.


54 Below in NYC will be celebrating the 1980 Fame Movie on June 26th.
