I hover and I haunt
I stalk through the city on little rat feet
Scurrying through the lives of the night people
But once there was a lady who showed me how to
Lay Back And Be Cool

She had love tattooed on her back
Had a mean 'ole two tone Pontiac
She could put you off with her attitude
She said I just wanna Lay Back And Be Cool
She's on a punk shock, hot rod, Hollywood crusin' trip
She found me cryin' in a parking lot on a Sunset Strip
She said Come on baby, I'll be good to you
She said I just wanna Lay Back And Be Cool

It's been a long time
Still think of her at night
We were drifters
Just looking for the light
She took me up somewhere in the hills
Turned me round, cured me of my ills
I stayed a year with her ,well maybe more like two
She said I just wanna Lay Back And Be Cool

I need bread (I don't got none at all)
I've been thinkin' about goin' down south this fall
I wanna make easy money and get by when I'm blue
I just wanna Lay Back And Be Cool
I wanna make easy money and get by when I'm blue
I just wanna Lay Back And Be Cool
And be cool
And be cool
And be cool

Enid Levine also wrote and recorded "Hi Fidelity" and "Be your Own Hero" on her 1983 album "American Love".
