Just Like You - Debbie Allen - Song of the Month

"Just Like You  is a funky disco song written by Tom Saviano and Jean Marie Arnold of the band Heat in 1980 for the bands album from that year also titled "Heat".

On Fame "Just Like You"  comes from the season 2 episode "Class Act" where it was performed by the Waters as a song playing on the radio that Lydia does an impromptu dance routine to on the streets of New York.

Reportedly Debbie Allen chose the song personally to perform on Fame.

The song was featured on the Kids From Fame Songs Album released in November 1982 in America and March 1983 in the U.K. where it was rerecorded by Debbie Allen. The song was also the B side to the final single "Songs" released by the cast in the U.K. in August  1983.

The song has so far never been performed in any of the Fame Concerts.

The original was released by Heat as the opening song on their 1980 album "Heat" and was also the bands first single.

You came callin', and I'm fallin'

You're like a fire and I feel like a flame

So consume me with what you're doin'

Love makes me hold on, I'll never be the same

Just like you to take me higher

Just like me to make you care

Just like you to be the one who's always there

Just like me to take you higher

Just like you to make me care

Just like me to be the one who's always there

Hypnotizin', oh, so mystifying

I feel the magic in every word you say

Soul inspired, loves desire

When you're near me my love won't slip away

Love won't slip away, hey, hey, hey

Just like you to take me higher

Just like me to make you care

Just like you to be the one who's always there

Just like me to take you higher

Just like you to make me care

Just like me to be the one who's always there.

  1. Does anyone know who was in the car in the video?

  2. It was a Broadway star named Ben Pettit, played by Glynn Turman. Lydia wanted to get his attention to ask him to go to the school to talk to the kids.
